Dealer Notes

Play harder with the 2019 Toyota Tacoma. While your rocking and rolling on the outside, you’ll be sitting in bold style on the inside. The Tacoma is built to handle the demands of a hard-charging weekend, and its interior features soft-touch materials to boost your comfort. Available LED daytime running lights help you be seen, day or night and standard projector-beam headlights shine brightly on the road ahead. You can also let the outside in with privacy glass that opens with the touch of a button. The Tacoma is built for maximum performance and efficiency with its 3.5-liter V6 direct-injection engine, giving you the perfect blend of high tech and high performance. This baby has the power to tow up to 6,800lbs and carry a payload of up to 1,440lbs. And when you’re towing, available trailer-sway control applies brake pressure at individual wheels. Complete with crawl control, hill start assist control and multi-terrain select features, there’s nothing this truck can’t handle. The bed boats an available 120V/400W outlet to keep you in action, while the deck rail system makes sure your gear makes the trip. An in-bed storage compartment gives you a secure spot to stash things. The Tacoma offers a range of convenient features for staying connected on the road, including two USB 2.0 ports, Entune app access, a 7-inch touchscreen, premium sound system, integrated navigation, a multi-information display and wireless charging. You’ll also find a comprehensive suite of safety features such as an integrated backup camera with rear parking sonar, blind spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert with sway warning system and dynamic radar cruise control.

Prior to purchase, I saw mixed reviews on the new generation. Initially the transmission seemed to be a bit jumpy. But is it a learning transmission. I took it out on a 700 mile trip through flat lands and mountain passes. The transmission settled down and is now really smooth. I would suspect if you driver it hard, the transmission will remember that and learn accordingly. The engine seems to have plenty of power and if you need a little more spunk for hills and towing, there is a button on the dash below the 4x4 nob that will change the shift patter. The seats are great. The new model seats are a bit more elevated that the previous years. Still could use a little more option for adjustment, but it is adequate. Mine has the lumbar adjustment, very effective and easy to us. I am 6 foot and I fit just fine in the truck with head room to spare. I test drove a Sport model as well. The Sport seats seem to set you lower into the seat and the bolsters were a bit to aggressive for me. I found my self having to lift myself out of the Sport seat to try to get out. The SR5 seats sit up a bit more and I just slide out of them. My SR5 came with a factory installed tonneau cover and the tow package, which I highly recommend both. Initially the suspension seemed a bit bouncy on ruff roads, but after the long drive on various roads and terrain, it seems to have settled down. Around town I am averaging 18-19 mpg. But, out on the highway at 65 to 70 mph I saw 24. Anything over 75 dropped the mileage down to 21. The truck is really easy to maneuver in parking lots/spaces. If fits well inside of the garage.
  • Not what I had Hoped for

Let me say first, this was a truck I always dreamed about having. I traded in my 2000 Dakota and got a deal on a SR5 4WD I could afford. I had read other reviews about having a problem with the truck lurching in Reverse and Drive but of course thought it wouldn't happen to me, but it did. My Tacoma accelerates for no apparent reason. I have taken it into the dealership and they keep telling me they can't find anything wrong. It's a shame because there are a lot of things I love about the truck. It rides great and is very comfortable on trips. My lease is up in about 6 months but I won't be getting another Tacoma.
  • Exactly what I was looking for in a truck

This is my 2nd Tacoma Double Cab (1st one was an 06 with a 4Runner in between). I was waiting for the new Ford Ranger but ended up purchasing the TRD Off Road 4X4 because I couldn't pass up the year end deal. It is a solid truck, and will be for many years of ownership. While I agree with the transmission complaints, it does get better gas mileage than my 06 by a couple of MPGs. I don't use the cruise control in the mountains as it will shift and rev constantly. To me that is a small annoyance I have learned to live with. The radar cruise control on flat terrain works great. I am average height and lived with the seating position in my previous model. Not a problem for me. The Crawl Control is outstanding! I am confident this truck will get me out of most off road situations. Also, I was originally looking at the Limited model, but that model uses the standard base model shocks. The upgraded Bilsteins on the TRD Off Road ride much nicer in my opinion and the off road tires are surprisingly quite at speed. My only real complaint, and it is minor, is that the central locking does not lock the tail gate. You have to pull the key out of the fob to lock it. If that is my only real compliant, then I made the right choice.
